Revealed: 2010 Fifa World Cup Official Mascot
South Africa welcomes Zakumi!

Zakumi
, the Official 2010 Fifa World Cup South Africa™ Mascot, has made his first ever public appearance at a media launch at SABC’s Auckland Park studios yesterday (22 September 2008).

The Official Mascot, a leopard, has been designed and produced exclusively in South Africa. The name is a composition of “ZA”, which stands for South Africa, and kumi translating to number 10 in various languages across the African continent.

2010 Mascot Video, watch this video of Zakumi:

Inspired by his football
idols, Zakumi has dyed his hair green as he felt it would be the perfect camouflage against the green of the football pitch.

The launch on yesterday evening was attended by Local Organising Committee CEO Danny Jordaan, Minister of Transport Jeff Radebe, Fifa Director of Marketing Thierry Weil and former Bafana Bafana crackerjacks Mark Fish and Philemon Masinga.

More information and pictures of Zakumi coming soon…
