Sport & Fifa 2010

South Africa will be in the global spotlight and will have to showcase its readiness and capabilities to stage the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The approach to the event taking place from 14 to 28 June 2009 is to make it a truly African celebration.
The pricing strategy therefore is to focus mainly on the domestic market with the objective to ensure that South African football supporters will be able to experience great football and in line with that the prices (in USD) have been defined as following. Category 4 will be sold in Rand.
Matches Cat 1 Cat 2 Cat 3 Cat 4 Skybox
1 $100 $50 $30 $10 $100
2 - 12 $100 $50 $30 $10 $100
13 - 14 $120 $75 $50 $20 $120
15 $100 $50 $30 $10 $100
16 $200 $100 $60 $30 $200
The first match is the opening match of the tournament. Matches 2-12 are the group matches, 13 and 14 are the semi-finals, 15 is the match for the 3rd and 4th place and match 16 is the final match of the tournament.
Category 4 tickets are to make up some 15% of the total inventory of an estimated 3 million purchasable tickets and will be sold exclusively to those living in South Africa. With these tickets, FIFA and the LOC intend to enable South African residents on low incomes to attend matches. This is the first time there is a special category, providing low-priced tickets for a Soccer World Championship.
While category 4 tickets will be sold exclusively to South African residents, tickets in categories 1, 2 and 3 (with category 1 tickets providing the best seats) will be sold on a worldwide basis, both on the international and domestic South African market.
“For the first time of the history of this event Africa will have two representatives among the eight participants with host Bafana Bafana and the African champions Egypt.
South African fans will see some of the best teams in the world namely 2006 world champions Italy and 2002 world champions and current defending Confederations Cup champion Brazil”, said Danny Jordaan, CEO of the SALOC.
The draw for the event will take place on the 22/23 of November and various proposals for the draw location have been received by the SALOC with the decision to be finalized soon.
