Gauteng Province Capital Johannesburg will be the only host city with two World Cup stadiums, the Soccer City Stadium as well as Ellis Park Stadium.

The first of the two soccer stadiums, the Soccer City stadium, has been called the home of South African soccer and will be the flagship stadium of the event.

Soccer City will be hosting both the opening ceremony and opening match of the 2010 FIFA World Cup which will be held on Friday 11 June 2010 as well as the final.

Currently seating 80,000 people
, soon to be upgraded to 94,700.

All renovations are running on
schedule - The stadium will be complete well before its deadline of May 2009.

Ellis Park Stadium

A walk from Johannesburg’s city centre, the Ellis Park soccer stadium will be hosting five group matches, one second round match as well as a quarter final in 2010.

The stadium is having minor upgrades and its final capacity will be a total of 61,000.

The stadium is due to be completed in July 2008.

Ellis Park will also be used in the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup.
