South African 2010 World Cup organisers FIFA have for the first time given an indication of how much match tickets for the 2010 World Cup games are going to cost.

Danny Jordaan, the chief executive officer of the 2010 World Cup organising committee, has stated prices for 2010 World Cup tickets had not yet been finalised.

"We must also wait for the final draw for 2010 to take place and that will be in 2009. We will then be able to finalise the ticket prices for the 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa

The cheapest tickets to the first World Cup in Africa in 2010, for which tickets will go on sale in 2009, are expected to be below both 2006 World Cup in Germany and the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea.

The cheapest tickets for 2010 would be below the cheapest tickets in the Japan/South Korea World Cup (in 2002), which was $50 (R350)and also be cheaper than Germany (2006), which was €58 (R550)," said Jordaan.

Sepp Blatter stated in 2006 on the 2010 Match Tickets; "We need to make sure that people in South Africa will be able to afford the tickets. We need to make them less expensive than those in Germany, but not too inexpensive as the local organising committee needs the income from ticketing sales. A possible scenario is to sell tickets to the local population at prices less than their face value".

"FIFA is looking at either giving away some tickets to the local population, which could come from their sponsors' allocation of seats, or “having very, very cheap prices for South Africans”, said Blatter.
