The ten best national teams from the South American division of FIFA (CONMEBOL) compete against each other to qualify for the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup in South Africa.

The teams play in a league format with home and away games. The best four national teams automatically qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

The team ranked fifth willenter a play-off with the best no.2 from the North, Central American and Caribbean (CONCACAF) Zone .
