South African Airports In And Around 2010 World Cup Host Cities

O. R. Tambo International Airport formerly named Johannesburg International Airport, was renamed in honour the ANC founder Oliver Reginald Tambo, and caters for 17 million passengers a year. It is the air transport hub of Southern Africa, catering for over 17 million passengers each year. The airport in Johannesburg was voted Africa’s leading airport, three consecutive years in a row, and is a world class facility that is situated forty minutes drive east from the Johannesburg City Centre, and approximately one hours drive from both Ellis Park and Soccer City, the Johannesburg Stadiums for the 2010 World Cup .

Lanseria International Airport is a medium sized airport north west of the centre of 2010 World Cup 2 Host City Johannesburg. Lanseria is mostly used for domestic flights. It features all essential passenger services. It is easily accessible by road from World Cup 2010 host cities Johannesburg to the south-east and Pretoria to the east. It is 45 minutes from Soccer City an hour from Ellis Park in Joburg and 45 minutes from Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria.

Cape Town International Airport has grown into an excellent airport in the last 10 years, and is currently undergoing a billion rand revamp to make it even more a truly world class airport. It was recently voted 2nd best airport in terms of service in Middle East/African region featuring every amenity for any business or leisure traveler, situated to the east of Cape Town it is only 20 minutes drive from Cape Town’s city centre and the proposed World Cup 2010 stadium at Green Point.

Durban International Airport is a busy, state of the terminal with over 4 million passengers annually. It features world class passenger services and is only 18km’s south from Durban’s city centre. The airport will be moved to a new location north of the city, and renamed King Shaka International Airport and be ready for operation by 2010.

Port Elizabeth International Airport is easily accessible and only 5 minutes south from the 2010 Host City Port Elizabeth’s city centre. It features all major passenger services including restaurants and coffee shops, car rental companies, a curio shop, cell phone companies and various tourism related services. The city’s stadium venue for the 2010 World Cup the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium is even closer only 2km to the north.

Bloemfontein Airport is a domestic airport with scheduled flights to 2010 Host Cities Johannesburgn Durban and Cape Town. It is only 20km east of the City Centre and has facilities for most passenger services.

Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport is the official airport of entry of Mpumalanga province. It is 23 km's East from World Cup 2010 Host City Nelspruit, 14 km from White River and only 30 minutes from the Kruger National Park.

Pilansberg International Airport is conveniently located between World Cup 2010 Host City Rustenburg in the south, Madikwe Game Reserve in the north-west & Sun City in the north. Part of South Africa’s North West Province, Pilansberg International Airport has daily connections between Johannesburg and Cape Town. It is only a short drive north from 2010 Host City Rustenburg and the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

Polokwane International Airport is situated five kilometres south of the 2010 Host City Polokwane city centre and even closer to the Peter Mokaba Stadium which plays host to the 2010 World Cup matches. It is a recently revamped, fully certified international airport featuring all major passenger services.
