Spend the Night with South African Women on Women's Day 2008
Read further if you're wondering what we suggest you do on Women's day 2008 in Cape Town

Molo knows that the strong
women of South Africa have helped build this country. Read more if the title made you wonder…

Women play and have always played a crucial role in all spheres of South African life.

Women’s Day celebrates our women in South Africa as this day commemorates 9 August 1956 when women participating in a national march petitioned against pass laws. This was legislation that required African persons to carry a document on them to ‘prove’ that they were allowed to enter a ‘white area’.

In politics and the struggle think of the “Mother of Mothers” Albertina Sisulu, Winnie Mandela and academia such as Mamphela Aletta Ramphele.

In current politics of female South African ministers Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Naledi Pandor and the late Helen Suzman, locally of the Mayor of Cape Town Helen Zille and Patricia de Lille for example.

In the arts think of famous South African sculptor Jane Alexander and poet Ingrid Jonker.

In South African Music our famous female musicians Miriam Makeba, Sibongile Khumalo, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Nhlanhla Sibongile Mafu of Mafikizola, Simphiwe Dana, Karen Zoid and the late and much loved Brenda Fassie.

On stage and screen, think famous South African Actresses; Oscar winner Charlize Theron, Tetty Pheto (Tsotsi) and off course a honorary mention for the incredible Evita Bezuidenhout.

In business think of South African women in business Maria Ramos, Wendy Luhabe and Nolitha Fakude for example.

A special thanks to Nozuko
‘Queen Elizabeth’, who was there with Molo when South Africa came out of the envelope in Mandela’s presence.

All these examples of many
are strong beautiful South African role models for us all. We salute you.
