Cape Town's best City Ballet performers receive Ballet Awards
Two Cape Town City Ballet performers has received the Balletomanes Award for best male dancer and best female dancer.

Coert Grobbelaar has received the Balletomanes Award for best male dancer and Cape Town City Ballet's Megan Swart for best female dancer.

At the Balletomanes Society's annual awards function at the Baxter at the weekend, Lara Turk received the award for best newcomer. A new award, the Geoffrey Neiman and Brian van Reede Award, named after the retired Spanish dancer and his partner respectively, went to Cape Town City Ballet dancers Robin van Wyk and Marianne Bauer. Neiman and Van Reede presented the new awards.

Other Cape Town City Ballet news is that there will be a one-off performance of Sean Bovim's hit production of Queen at the Ballet at Artscape on Monday, May 15. The ballet will tour to Dublin in July, and this performance will be for visiting Irish press and for marketing and publicity purposes.

The music for this performance will be performed on stage by the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Michael Hankinson. The singers will be Duncan Royce, Luciano Zuppa and Zanne Stapelberg, who sings the lead in Cape Town Opera's production of La Boh'me, opening on May 6 at Artscape.

Sets for Queen at the Ballet are by Tay Dall and the costumes are by Gavin Rajah, Craig Port, Christiaan Gabriel du Toit and Malcolm Kl'k.
