Freedom Day Events in and Around Cape Town This Year

Freedom Day celebrates the freedom of all South Africans and commemorates the first democratic post-Apartheid elections held on 27 April 1994, when Nelson Mandela was elected as President of South Africa epitomising South Africa becoming a rainbow nation.

Events taking place on Freedom Day 2008:

Keynote address by President Thabo Mbeki on the 27th of April at the official Freedom Day celebrations in Cape Town.

One of the things to do in Hout Bay on Freedom day is to visit Hout Bay's beach on April 27, 2008, bring your own lunch and take the family to Houtbay.

Up the Cape West Coast Freedom day is celebrated with An Esoteric Fair; Esoteric stalls (candles, crystals, tarot, altar tools, runes etc), food stalls, bonfire, drumming circle, tarot readers and much more at the 2008 Pagan Fair on Freedom Day.

The Company's Garden will host the Cape Town Freedom Day concert where a musical concert will be staged in honour of Taliep Pietersen. This concert forms part of the annual Cape Town Festival for 2008.

(Iziko) marks the fourteenth anniversary of the birth of democracy in South Africa with free entrance at its museums on 27 April 2008.
