South African men are more romantic than their female counterparts, according to a survey comparing gender spending habits.

Fed up with long working hours and less time with their partners and families, 60 percent of men prefer to spend their money on romantic purchases their loved ones can also enjoy, according to the survey conducted by international online lottery portal  www.playukinternet.com nationwide.

It surveyed how men and women
would spend a lottery win. Investing in a dream family home topped men's wish-lists at 32 percent, while romantic getaways for two stood at 14 percent, and spoiling their partners with lavish luxury gifts was 12 percent.

While six in 10 women reported they would spend their winnings on once-in-a-lifetime experiences, 80 percent of men would have their partners in mind when spending their windfalls, and would not splash out on the expected luxury sports cars and speed boats, the survey found. Mercury Correspondent
