Pick up and go: New transport option to & from Johannesburg Airport
New "Pick up and go" Parking Facility to ease congestion on Johannesburg international Airport.
Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) today (Thursday, 6 July 2006) announced the introduction of a new, convenient short-stay "pick up and go" parking facility, free for the first five minutes, to people picking up passengers from the International Arrivals terminal as of Friday, 7 July 2006. The new parking facility is located opposite the International Arrivals terminal and has the capacity to accommodate 90 cars at any given point, as opposed to the current 26 bays located at curb-side.

Manager of Landside at JIA, Kesavan Naicker says the introduction of this short-stay parking facility is much needed. "We have identified the current curb-side pick-up and go area outside the International Arrivals terminal as susceptible to heavy congestion, much to the frustration of people picking up passengers. As a result, we have decided to introduce this conveniently located short-stay parking facility in response to the challenge posed in this particular area. "

According to Naicker the current pick-up area at the curb-side of International Arrivals experiences heavy congestion partly because people are unable to easily locate passengers waiting for them. The short-stay parking facility will enable people to park close-by to International Arrivals, look for their respective passengers and quickly get back to their cars to leave the airport, without causing unnecessary delays, congestion or frustration. Naicker concludes, "We are always looking at new ways to improve everyone's visit to JIA. We believe that convenient parking plays a significant role in providing our visitors with a world-class airport experience. I am confident that this facility will greatly reduce any inconveniences suffered in the past."

As part of efforts to ease parking congestion at the airport, ACSA recently introduced ‘park and ride' facility at Super South Gate available at low long term tariffs for clients who want an alternative to the terminal building parking facilities. This low cost facility is close to Jet Park, past Emperors Palace (previously Caesars Palace). Scheduled bus shuttles will then deliver and collect the passenger from terminal building.
