Just Married: Wedding tourism big business in the Western Cape
It is estimated that about 8 000 weddings take place in the Western Cape each year.

Wedding tourism is a fast-growing market in the Western Cape and accounts for up to 4 000 ceremonies every year, with a conservative foreign exchange income of R380 000 (± 45 000 euro) per ceremony.

It is estimated that about 8 000 weddings take place in the Western Cape each year. Up to half of these originate from abroad. 

According to Stacey Hopkins, banqueting and corporate sales manager at the Mount Nelson Hotel, it hosts on average 90 weddings annually, half of which are international.

An international wedding attracts 30 to 50 guests. Most of them will stay for about two weeks. Foreign holidaymakers spend an average of R900 (±100 euro) a day, or between R378 000 and R630 000 per wedding.  

Multiply this by 4 000 international weddings a year and you have a R1.5 billion (±200 million euro) industry.
