Only wine made from grapes grown in the region may be bottled in the special bottle, while most will use it for their top-end wines. Klein Constantia has released its 2005 sauvignon blanc in the new bottle.

Producers have been talking about a special regional bottle for some time - perhaps because of the clear definition of the Constantia Valley and its comparative isolation from the Stellenbosch-Paarl heartland, the wineries there have a history of cooperation amongst themselves.

The use of an elegant own-bottle has brought advantages to numerous wines all over the world. A few years ago, Albert de Villaine, co-owner of Burgundy's Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, had a special bottle designed for the then lesser region of Bouzeron, where he and his winery own vineyards. Needless to say, the once lesser admired aligote wines became.
