Lion Sands - Private Game Reserve
![]()
Overview

River Lodge is the soul of Lion Sands and has been built on the banks of the Sabie River, positioned on a site with trees dating back 800 years. Facing due east, the lodge catches the sun as it rises over the Kruger National Park. Hosted by a family of staff that make it feel like home away from home, the lodge is about spirit, warmth and nature. Here you are invited to relax and experience African hospitality at its finest.

Bedroom
The rooms at River Lodge offer respite and protection from the Lowveld heat. The interior is a tranquil purple and cream haven, cool in the summer, cosy in the winter. The bathroom, with its tranquil look and pebble-inlaid floors complements the bushveld well. There are 18 luxurious thatched bedrooms with en-suite bathroom, outdoor & inside shower & wooden viewing deck. The bedroom area is air-conditioned with an overhead fan. All rooms have mini-bar & telephone access. The rooms are linked to all areas by raised wooden walkways.
Room Amenities:
• King size bed with mosquito netting (can be made up as twin bed)
• En-suite bathroom
• Inside and outside shower
• Bath and vanity basin
• Private Viewing Deck
• Mini-bars
• Safes and telephone
• Air-conditioning and overhead fans

Lounge

Scenes in the Lounge: It's modern yet its fabric is distinctly ethnic. It's open and cool in the summer yet comfortably warm in the winter.
Swimming Pool
The swimming pool is arguably the best game viewing spot in the summer months.

Health Spa

The Health Spa is appropriately named 'Lalamuka' which is the Shangaan word for 'unwind'.
Boma
Leaving no sense untouched, your tastebuds will also experience delights that will be quite unforgetable.

Curio Shop

Everything you'd expect to find in a shop in the middle of nowhere: Bush wear, beautiful African arts and crafts; reminders of a unique holiday; postcards to 'rub it in' to those back home and of course, the camera film and sun lotion you forgot to pack.
Cuisine
The Lion Sands culinary experience is as diverse and interesting as the African bushveld itself. Janine Hobbs, our Executive Chef, together with her team use imagination, passion and natural flair to produce the most delicious and unique food. Whether it is buffets on the banks of the Sabie River under glittering starlit skies with lions roaring in the distance or fine dining under magical African Acacias, Janine and her Chefs produce the most amazing dishes which carry the exotic flair of local culture.
Magnificent sunsets can be enjoyed on game drive with a glass of chilled wine and a platter of South African cheeses, homemade samoosas and, of course, South Africa's traditional spicy beef biltong.
All pastries and breads are freshly made daily in the kitchen by the pastry chefs and a freshly baked buttermilk and raison rusk while watching the sun rise puts the cherry on top of a most wonderful African culinary experience.
