Bird-watching is most rewarding and more than 350 species have been recorded, including the rare Gymnogeg and Knob-billed duck.
The
vegetation is typical of the lowveld: mixed woodland, which is
dominated by a variety of acacia and bushwillow species, but also
includes tamboti, marula, silver clusterleaf and jackalberry.
Game
viewing during the hot summer months (October to April) is more
comfortable in the early mornings and late afternoon when it is cooler.
Late afternoon rain showers and not uncommon in summer and provide much
sought-after relief for both humans and animals.
Elephant Back Safaris at Kapama Nature Reserve Activities
Kapama

secluded bush camps :- Kapama Lodge, Buffalo Camp or Nyala House.
This dreamlike adventure offers magical moments as well as the opportunity to come into close contact with wildlife.
Game Drives at Kapama Private Nature Reserve
Accompanied
by highly skilled game rangers, guests set out on early morning and
evening game drives. A game drive in an open safari vehicle offer
guests the opportunity to see the Big Five and a large variety of
smaller wildlife.
The rangers provide interesting information and anecdotes about the inhabitants of the bush.
Clay Pigeon Shooting
Clay
Pigeon Shooting is a rather good team building activity. We have two
clay pigeon machines and one rabbit rolling machine. Clay Pigeon
Shooting is arranged on request as it is charged as an extra.
Sundowner Boating Trips
Good
birding and sundowner cruises with a maximum of six pax at a time is
offered. There is also a chance of viewing crocodile and hippo. Charged
as an extra and can be arranged as and when required.
Hoedspruit Research Center
The
Hoedspruit Research Center is an hour's drive from the lodge through
the bush. The stay at Kapama includes a visit to the center and it is
arranged between the guests and the rangers.
Bird-Watching at Kapama Nature Reserve
The
Bird hide is built on the banks of a large dam. Guests have the
opportunity to view a large variety of water birds as well as animals
coming down to drink.
Guided Bush Walks and Walking Safaris
Bush walks are arranged by the rangers and include informative chats about grasses, trees, wild flowers and animals.
Bush Picnics at Kapama Nature Reserve
The
food and beverage department and the rangers arrange picnics. We
arrange picnics at various spots around the reserve. Picnics are very
informal and highly enjoyable.Bush barbeques and champagne picnics are
highly enjoyable and can be arranged.

Kapama
is able to offer a number of activities slightly further afield, in
conjunction with our various partners. Whether excitement or relaxation
is your aim, it will be our pleasure to arrange it for you.
Traditional dancing by Nyani dancers
This
is arranged on request for groups. It is charged at an extra cost.
There are about 14 to 16 dancers including little ones, which dance
their way into ones heart. The dancers perform at Kapama Lodge.
Nyani Tribal Village
Daily
tours are conducted by your host Axon Khoza, detailing the traditional
way of Shangaan life. A traditional dinner is served in the evening.
White water Rafting at the Blyde River
Day trips which include lunch and a whole day on the river.Proffessional river guides accompany all the rafting trips.
Microlight
Microlighting
over Kapama for the ultimate game viewing experience! Hot Air
Ballooning, microlighting and helicopter flips can be arranged.
African Curios
At
the Strijdom tunnel there are a number of stalls with ethnic curios
from the area. We are able to transport the guest to Strijdom Tunnel at
an additional cost. The scenery on the route is breathtaking and a
sight to behold. The Strijdom Tunnel is approximately an hours drive
from Kapama.
Golfing
For
the sport fanatic we can arrange golfing outings. The two courses used
are the Hans Marensky (Phalaborwa) and Drakensig (Hoedspruit) Golf
Course. Early morning on both courses can be quite exciting with the
spotting of wildlife whilst playing golf.
Panorama Mountain Tours
Tour
guides collect guest at the lodge and depart for the mountains. The
trip includes all the spots of interest, light lunch in Grasskop and
shopping time.
Quad Biking
For the more adventurous, quad biking in the Drakensberg is tremendous fun.
5 Day Elephant Back Safari Experience at Camp Jabulani
Day One
•
On arrival at Eastgate airport you will be met by your game ranger and
transferred into the Kapama Private Game Reserve to Camp Jabulani.
• On arrival
at the camp you will be welcomed by the staff and enjoy a refreshing
cocktail, followed by a light lunch. Guests may then relax in the cool
of their luxury tents for the afternoon. Each air-conditioned tent is
beautifully furnished, reflecting the high standard of Camp Jabulani,
and has an open fire place, individual plunge pool, en-suite bathroom
facilities complete with bath and outside shower.

In the afternoon, high tea is served on the deck while your game ranger
explains what to expect over the coming days. Thereafter the adventure
begins and guests are introduced to the elephants and trainers.
• As the evening falls, return to Camp Jabulani to freshen up and enjoy a pre-dinner cocktailand dinner is served at the camp.
Days Two to Four
•
Each day commences with a dawn wake up call, followed by an early
morning Elephant Back excursion with a typical bush breakfast.
• Lunch is either served back at Camp Jaulani or out in the bush at a secluded picnic venue.
During the remaining days you will experience the excitement of guided
bush walks accompanied by the elephants, afternoon game drives in open
4x4 safari vehicles to get the perfect photo shot of the Big 5, attend
a training session or even enjoying a refreshing afternoon swim with
the elephants. In addition you will visit the Hoedspruit Endangered
Species Centre where one of the young elephants was raised since the
age of 3 months.
Highlights of your stay include a sumptuous bush dinner, evening
sundowners watching the sunset behind the Drankensberg mountains before
continuing on elephant back under a star studded African sky.

The itinerary over these days is kept flexible in order to accommodate
the needs and desires of each individual group, as well as inclement
weather conditions and seasonal changes which may affect the day-to-day
activities.
Day Five
•
Before taking your onward flight you will be bade farewell at Camp
Jabulani by the staff and it's elephants, which will be standing in
attendance to wish you a safe journey further. This is the last photo
opportunity for you and your newfound elephant companion. However you
will receive a memorable souvenir gift to take home and to remind you
of your once in a lifetime African experience.
Rates
are inclusive of all meals, teas and snacks, dawn and dusk safaris,
bush walks and accommodation and V.A.T. Tourism levy, laundry, drinks
and curio purchases are not included in the rate and are for the guests
account. Guests are requested to check-in after 14h00 (Arrival for
lunch prior to check-in is welcome) and checkout before 11h00.

Closest Airport: Eastgate Airport – Transfers are complimentary and are
provided in open vehicles, transfer time is approx 30 minutes.
By road Kapama is approximately 5 hours from Johannesburg.

2. Bookings cancelled 45 days prior to arrival will forfeit their deposit.
3. Bookings cancelled 30 days prior to arrival will incur a 50% cancellation fee.
4. Bookings cancelled 14 days prior to arrival will incur a 100% cancellation fee.
5. Please note that guests will be required to sign an indemnity form on arrival.
Children
under the age of 6 are not permitted on Game drives, children between
the ages of 6 and 12 are permitted on game drives at the sole
discretion of the ranger.
