Want to be a Volunteer at the 2010 FIFA World Cup

Here's your opportunity to be intimately involved with the world's greatest football spectacle!

South Africa and the rest of the world are waiting patiently for the 2010 FIFA World Cup to begin in June 2010.

Ticket sales are progressing rapidly, and businesses are scurrying about making sure that they are set to benefit from the greatest soccer spectacle on earth. You can also be involved, and not just as a spectator…

Applications to be a volunteer for the 2010 FIFA World Cup opened on 20 July 2009 and closed on 31 August 2009.

A total of 15 000 volunteers are required and will be selected from South Africa, Africa, and the rest of the world to assist in making sure the event is run smoothly.

There are various volunteer roles that need to be filled so expertise are required in all fields.

Volunteers are needed for everything from ushering people to their seats, assisting the media and foreign language speakers, welcoming people at the airport, to driving guests around.

Volunteers are required in 16 functional areas including:

Administration, accreditation, marketing, media, protocol, spectator services, transport, environmental services, welcome and information services, information and communication technology, language support, rights protection, logistic services, hospitality, ushering services and volunteer management.

Applications to be a volunteer for the 2010 FIFA World Cup are now closed.

In order to be considered as a volunteer for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™, applicants:

a) Must be 18 years of age or older before or by 1 March 2010;
b) Must be able to speak in English;
c) Must be available to attend an interview;
d) Must be available to attend the prescribed training; and
e) Must have a valid South African Identity Document; or
f) Must have a valid Passport and Permit to serve as a volunteer in South Africa from Department of Home Affairs.

The 2010 FIFA World Cup will be hosted in the following 2010 Host Cities:

a) Cape Town (Green Point Stadium)
b) Durban (Moses Mabhida Stadium)
c) Johannesburg (Ellis Park and Soccer City)
d) Mangaung / Bloemfontein (Free State Stadium)
e) Nelson Mandela Bay / Port Elizabeth (Port Elizabeth Stadium)
f) Nelspruit (Mbombela Stadium)
g) Polokwane (Peter Mokaba Stadium)
h) Rustenburg (Royal Bafokeng Stadium)
i) Tshwane / Pretoria (Loftus Versveld Stadium)
