Close your eyes and picture Jacaranda trees, colourful backgrounds and a city filled with amazing culture. These will be your surroundings if you are in Polokwane to enjoy fixtures being played there during 2010 Soccer World Cup.
Previously known as Pietersburg it rightfully got its name Polokwane which means ‘place of safety’. Polokwane is situated in the centre of the Limpopo Province on South Africa’s north east border.
Polokwane’s Peter Mokaba stadium has already been host to several international games.
Including the Bafana Bafana and Swaziland game as well as the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match between Bafana Bafana and Ivory Coast where Didier Drogba had his deveiw.
Polokwane is currently building a new soccer stadium for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, situated in the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex.
The soccer stadium will accommodate 45,000 people and will be completed in March 2009.
