James Bond author, Ian Fleming, once mused that 'horses are dangerous at both ends and uncomfortable in the middle'. On that note, many folks might think twice about going on a horse-back safari at Aquila Private Game Reserve. Lay your reservations at rest: The horses at Aquila are trained to accommodate all types.
Whether you are the Camel Man personified, or a couch potato - you are bound to enjoy a horseback safari at Aquila Game Reserve close to Cape Town. After all: Who haven't harboured secret childhood dreams of galloping off towards the horizon with a trusty steed?
Come on, you know you want to go Safari. Succumb to the call of the wild. Saddle up your inhibitions, get on a horse and let's go:
Arriving at the rendezvous point, your Safari guides will first ask you about your level of experience. They'll then assign you to your horse, and give you a sturdy hat to plunk onto your head. You will have a few minutes to get acquainted with your hairy new partner, and - if you are new to the whole thing - your guides will give you a quick crash course in horse riding. You'll then trot off into the wilderness, guides in tow.
On a horse back safari, you can get so much closer to wild animals than with a car. Come face to face with rhinos, hippos, zebras, elands and a range of other animals. Walk, trot, or gallop (depending on your experience) through the estate, exploring the vast range of vegetation and wildlife.
Your guide will not only assist you with keeping your horse in check, but will also provide fascinating anecdotes regarding the animals and plants surrounding you in the game reserve. You might stop for a second and actually taste the saltiness of the bushes next to the salt pan; or you could learn just how dangerous an ostrich really is.
A horse-back safari will not only satisfy your secret Wild West fantasies but will also give you a unique opportunity to see Africa's magnificent wildlife up close. As an added bonus, you can proudly moan about your saddle sores to jealous family members and friends the next day.
So saddle up your stallions and gallop off into the sunset at Aquila Private Game Reserve on a Horse Back Safari.
