There’s nothing quite like the feeling of making something with your own hands. Meticulously crafting it until its perfect, painting on the small intricate details and watching it develop into something of beauty.

If you don’t often have the time to sit down and get your creative juices flowing then you’ll love the Clay Café in Hout Bay. Head to the Clay Café for a quiet afternoon of creative fun and spend the day sculpting, painting, and sipping tea while you chat to friends and family.

Take your pick of the bisque items on display and paint it with your three chosen colours. The Cape Town pottery store has a range of unfired and unpainted clay bowls, plates, mugs, and sculptures ready for you to beautify with your own designs.

When you’ve finished with your masterpiece, leave it at the Clay Café to be glazed and fired and within a week, it’s ready to be picked up and enjoyed.

Enjoy the Clay Café as a fun outing for the family, with just the kids or as an adult only outing too. The café also sells coffee, tea, refreshments, and cake for you to nibble and sip while your create.

Prices range from R25 to R100 for unpainted bisques and there is a studio fee of R20 per person which includes painting, glazing, and firing. There are also professionally made and painted ceramics for sale on the premises.

The Clay Cafe makes for a memorable day of creativity and recreation for children and parents alike.

Choose from a vast array of unfired bisque and a wide selection of colourful paints to create crockery that is both personal and completely unique.

Spend a leisurely day painting in a relaxed environment with the friendly staff at hand to assist you with any painting techniques that you might wish to make use of.

A day at the Clay Cafe makes an ideal children’s birthday party and school outing venue.

Each child is given the chance to indulge in their own personal masterpiece, and each parent is given the golden opportunity to sit back and enjoy, leaving all the mess and fuss to us!

A garden and playground await the children outside so that when they are finished painting, there is still plenty to explore.

Booking is essential for childrens parties, kitchen teas and corporate team building. Party packs are available on order.

The Clay Cafe is open 7 days a week and can be found on Main Rd Hout Bay, near Oakhurst farm stall. For evenings, a minimum of 6 people required - please book before.
