KWV’s brand portfolio of premium wines and brandies, offers products across the price and quality spectrum for the enjoyment of all.
The natural wine portfolio consists of Perold, KWV’s icon wine, Cathedral Cellar, South Africa’s most awarded ultra-premium wine range, KWV Reserve, Roodeberg, South Africa’s most celebrated red wine blend, Laborie, which offers a full product range from the exclusive winery in Paarl, KWV Lifestyle, a truly South African lifestyle brand, as well as the easy drinking Robert’s Rock and Pearly Bay wine brands.
KWV brandies are world-renowned, particularly the KWV 3,5,10 and 20 Year Old Brandies and Imoya VSOP Alambic Brandy.
KWV was established as a private wine co-operative in 1918 to stabilise the South African wine industry after several outbreaks of phylloxera vastatrix, as well as a wine surplus.
In 1997, the co-operative converted to a private company whereby the members became shareholders but were entitled to trade shares only among themselves.
In 2002, this restriction was lifted and shares were allowed to be traded freely. KWV Limited has a listed entity on the JSE, KWV Investments, which is the vehicle for its 30% shareholding in Distell.
Golden Kaan, a joint venture wine brand between KWV and Racke of Germany, was launched worldwide in 2003 and in South Africa in 2005, and has achieved considerable market penetration.
