Time to rock at the Houtstok Afrikaans Music Festival
If you like Afrikaans music (and really, who doesn’t?), then lace up your veldskoene and get ready for the Houtstok Swartland Afrikaanse Musiekfees. Taking place from Friday 23 April to Sunday 25 April 2010, this festival promises to be fun for the whole family.
If you want to listen to some lekker tunes, Houtstok has lined up 3 days of outstanding South African performers. You’ll be bopping to the beat. From the poppy hits of boy band Eden on Friday, to the ever popular Kurt Darren on Saturday, to country bumpkin Barbara Ray on Sunday, Houtstok has it all.
More than music – No worries
Apart from the fantastic musical line-up, there will be lots of other activities to keep you busy. The organisers have gone the extra mile to ensure that everyone will be entertained throughout the festival.
Want some retail therapy? No worries. For the ladies who want to shop, you’ll find a market with stalls selling everything from tasty snacks to arts and crafts. Looking for a place to graze? No worries. The Spur restaurant will be serving up juicy burgers and sticky ribs all weekend long. Many other food stalls will be serving up tasty grub in the food court area as well.
Taking the little ones along, but can’t watch them 24/7? Again, no worries. There will be a kiddies crèche run by the TygerBear Foundation. During the music festival, TygerBear will provide entertainment and education to the kids. The children’s facility will offer interactive entertainment in an appropriately equipped and child friendly environment where your child will feel safe and special.
Are your teenage children worried it’s going to be lame? No worries (and not a chance!). Teenagers and thrill-seekers can go wild at the festival’s adventure centre. A mechanical bull, paintball arena, BMX bike track, slingshot ride, and a 250m slip-and-slide will be provided free of charge for all festival goers. There will also be TVs with DSTV Super Sport channel in the beer tents so that you can keep up with the rugby action.
Set up camp, then dance
Want to set up camp for the weekend, but can’t be bothered to schlep everything along with you? No worries. You can rent tents from the Kreef Hotel for the duration of the festival. The hotel’s service includes a spacious, lockable tent with a mattress, hot breakfasts daily, fireplace with braai-facilities, fully serviced hot showers, and 24-hour security. Everything’s sorted. For more information and for bookings and prices visit www.kreefhotel.co.za.
The festival should be the highlight of the autumn music season. Rooi rokkies on, everyone! For more information on Houtstok 2010 Swartland Afrikaanse Musiek Fees, and for the complete line-up, visit www.houtstok.co.za.
