Dive into Tank Seafood Restaurant for a Creative Sushi and Alfresco Dining Experience
The Cape Quarter brings you another great eating experience at the Tank Seafood Restaurant and Sushi Bar.
Looking for a sushi haunt in Cape Town? Check this out. Boasting the best in Californian new wave sushi and Pacific Rim cuisine is Cape Town’s freshest fishy experience, Tank.
Situated in Green Point’s ever popular Cape Quarter, The Tank seafood & sushi restaurant – which is bisected by a colossal fish tank – serves up two very different personalities. Whether you’re in the mood to chill out or wine and dine, you’ll find something to suit your disposition on either side of the unique divider.
The lounge side of the tropical tank is a great place to meet up with friends for a few cocktails and a quick sushi after work. Comfy purple couches, blue low lights and a stylish silver metal bar set a trendy cosmopolitan vibe. Perfect for young professionals looking to unwind after a hectic day. The lounge area is popular for its half-price sushi and cocktail special which takes place every day from 12:00 to 18:00. During these hours sushi lovers spill out onto the open air piazza of Cape Quarter.
Chill in the courtyard
The courtyard is well-suited for alfresco dining on warm summer nights. Tables from various restaurants surround the area with its luscious tree, sparkly lights, and happy eaters. It’s a calm but animated the scene.
If it’s just drinks you’re after, grab a table outside and cool down with classic cocktails – everything from daiquiris to mojitos. Then line your stomach with a few sushi tapas, like tuna spring rolls with a sweet chilli sauce or chicken satay. These start at R12 for various portions.
Great sushi selection
If you’re peckish, dive into the impressive sushi menu. It’s the house specialty, and fresh Californian new wave sushi is expertly prepared. We tried the Philly rolls – an adventurous combo of cream cheese, avo, and smoked salmon with fresh salmon on top. We also had classic tuna fashion sandwiches with the basic sushi fillings: tuna, avo and mayo. Your standard half-price sushi will cost you around R34 for 8 pieces.
Up till now it’s been all laid back lounging and after-work drinks. But what if you’re looking for something a little more substantial and upmarket? Then head inside to the more mature side of Tank. The sophisticated minimalistic interior of the restaurant creates a peaceful setting for quiet dining away from the masses.
Adventurous eating
Tank’s extensive menu offers a selection of dishes, enigmatically described as “Pacific Rim”. If you crave something beyond sushi, try the breast of duck at R125 or the Norwegian salmon at R130. Outstanding. Then round off with a dark chocolate fondant at R48. Yummy.
Tank is all about exploring outside your gastronomic comfort zone. You’ll be hard pressed to find something plain and simple on the menu. Whether you’re a sushi lover or a fan of Japanese cuisine you’ll be lightly nudged to try something a little different.
Aluminium tables and chairs and simple umbrellas peg the outside area as an area for the laid-back crowd. But the inside is a whole other world of suede booths and wooden tables, white linens, and cloth napkins.
The restaurant has been cleverly designed so you’ll never have to ask “am I in the mood for Tank?” – no matter what your mood you’ll find a spot at this swanky Cape Town restaurant.
Tank can be found at Cape Quarter, De Waterkant Street, Green Point, 8001.
