Until the World Cup starts
Every Thursday evening the Albert Hall in Woodstock club is taken over by the ‘Jou ma se comedy’ club.
The mother city’s new Stand Up comedy club is the brain child of Kurt Schoonraad, one of South Africa’s best Stand Up Comedians and a home grown Cape Town Boikjie.
Apart from the fact that Cape Town finally has its own Comedy Club again, its also a chance for rookies to brush shoulders with some of the best comedians in Cape Town like hot & rising star Ndumiso Lindi, local legend Marc Lottering, Tracy Klass, Stuart Taylor and Xhosa/Zulu speaking Jewish son of Cape Town; Nik Rabinowitz.
Every Thursday night Kurt and his fellow comedians put on a hilarious show, and give new up and coming stand-up comedians a fantastic playground.
Especially our overseas friends rated South Africa’s Stand Up comedy as top class, most likely especially because of our ‘bad old days’ providing plenty of ammunition.
The atmosphere at the venue is an excellent match; The Albert Hall in the rejuvenating Woodstock is a mixture between ‘that real and intimate Stand Up comedy atmosphere’ and unique Cape Town feel.
The Albert’s Hall building, history, décor and owner make the comedy club a solidly suited spot for the comedy club.
Why? How does a French man from Paris end up transforming a derelict building in Woodstock to make it into a theatre.
See for yourself; The comedy club itself relaxed with an array of different people who all show up for a great laugh and will not be going home disappointed.
It’s great fun especially sitting in the front row.
From the opening night, people will be remembering ‘Shameema’ for years to come.
And in years and years from now, people that know this ‘Shameema’ will be able to prove their grandkids that they were at the opening of ‘that legendary comedy club’ in years and years from now.
And of course we will be part of that group.
Certainly one on our list of best things to do on a Thursday night in Cape Town; and we know our stand-up comedy.
Kurt & co. have shown their balls with this Comedy Club; and we love them!
