Happy Hour at Tommy’s Sports Bar
One hour a day for a week … sound good?
We selected the best township tours of Khayelitsha, Langa and Gugulethu for you to enjoy.
One of the must do's in Cape Town is to do a good township tour of Cape Town's townships.
These township tours take you on a great township tour of Langa, Khayelitsha or Gugulethu & you get to know about the culture & the way of life in the townships & see the progress, visit the social projects & absorb the inner strength of those living in these areas.
We have selected several different township tours:
Township Experience (half a day) costs R340 per adult and R250 for children under 12, and gives tourists and insight in the creation of the different townships for black, coloured & Indian South Africans. on this township tour you will visit Langa, South Africa's oldest black township, where you will start off with a walking tour.
The tour will give an insight in how & why the township was created, how people lived & how the township expanded. You will see with your own eyes what progress already has been made, as well as the progress still to be done.
You will visit social projects, & the Arts & Culture Centre Guga Sthebe. Futhermore you will visit the coloured townships of Philippi & the Indian ´Group Area' of Rylands.
The Cape Care Route, A Trail of two Cities (full day) of Cape Capers costs R580 per adult and R435 for children under 12, and introduces tourists with some of the numerous social & community projects in the townships around Cape Town & you will meet people who have dedicated their lives to improve the conditions of their community. On this Cape Town tour will visit the Edith Stevens Wetland Park, the Tsoga Environmental centre, the housing project in Victoria Mxenge, established by women.
The Cape Care Route is a true eye opener, and experience that you will remember for a very long time. You will arrive with doubt & uncertainty, You will depart enlightened & inspired.
The District Six & Bo Kaap tour (half day) costs R340 per adult and R250 for children under 12, and you will get an insight in the stories & history of District Six and the Bo-Kaap in Cape Town. District Six, a vibrant Cape suburb, was flattened by the apartheid regime in order to relocated its 65 000 inhabitants. The Bo-Kaap or the old Cape ´Malay Quarters', with its colourful housed & cobbled stone roads, is the area in Cape Town were freed slaves were housed.
A truly heartwarming detail is that the township tour operators and CapeTownMagazine.com really work hard in making a difference in South Africa, for instance by donating a portion of the incoming fees to several community projects that deal with skills development, job creation & education.
We have also selected day tours such as Cape Peninsula Tours, Winelands & Wildlife tours, Whale Experiences, & trips to the Garden Route from Cape Town.
This initiative and other aspects make Cape Capers a truly responsible organization that promotes responsible township tourism in Cape Town & the Western Cape.
This is not an opinion, it is a mere fact: in 2003 & 2004 our operator was the winner of the Ministerial Award for best Tourist Guide.
Our township operator also won a Ministerial Award for "Extraordinary contribution in making SA a premier tourist destination". Last but not least, in 2004 Cape Capers won the Other Guide Best Township Experience Award. In other words, there are more reasons for choosing Cape Capers for a township tour. Cape Capers, because they care!
More things to do in Cape Town's townships are a Township Soccer Tour in Imizamo Yethu or for example a towsnhip tour with a Xhosa speaking white ex-soccer player.
