Blonde(s) have more fun

Smoking hot new restaurant Blonde is added to the Sevruga and Beluga family. When...? remains the big question though...

Oscar Kotzé, is spoiling us for choice. Last winter the creator of smash-hit eateries Sevruga and Beluga is at it again with the launch of a new and super stylish eatery - Blonde - in Cape Town.

Currently still under construction, Blonde restaurant is described as very sexy, sophisticated and fine dining with flair. The restaurant is located at the old Hatfield’s restaurant site - on the corner of Hatfield’s and Wandel Street Gardens - and is set to be Cape Town’s newest hotspot.

When it will, however, remains still to be seen, unfortunately. Whether Blonde will make his grand opening before or after the World Cup? "We really cannot tell," says Sam, PR-manager of the Caviar Group.

Blondes do have more fun
For his new restaurant in Cape Town, Kotzé is drawing inspiration from his self-confessed weakness for blondes. Kotzé has a knack for coming up with interesting restaurant concepts and names, and Blonde is no different.

“I’m always thinking of new concepts and about a year ago I stumbled upon some great restaurant names and the names inspired me to try and think of the best possible name for the next restaurant - something different” explained Kotzé.

"One morning we were sitting in a brain storming session, and we went through about two hundred different names, and then two very attractive blonde girls walked into Beluga – and that was that. Blonde refers to blondes and a blonde sauce, a very thin veloute.”

The restaurant is rumoured to open its doors at the beginning of November 2009, and if the success of its sisters is anything to go by, it will no doubt quickly become one of the most popular restaurants in Cape Town.

Even though the eatery will be born into a family of popular restaurants with a sure-fire recipe for success, Blonde will have some subtle differences from her sister restaurants.

And when it opens...
Blonde will only be open in the evenings, with the kitchen serving as a test kitchen during the day and will cater to a more intimate experience. In order to make fine dinning of this level possible Blonde will seat only 120 guests, compared to Beluga’s 400 and Sevruga’s 250 guests.

The food in Blonde will also be very different. The restaurant will have a smaller menu which will change with the seasons. There will be a full a la carte and chefs tasting menu but the menu will not include any sushi.

“The idea behind the food in Blonde is perfection and due to the restaurant only seating 120 guests, we are able to put in some more processes into every plate. With the development kitchen, we are busy pushing the envelope on our cooking, and what we can do,” said Kotzé.

“In Beluga and Sevruga, we are limited in the amount of processes we can use in producing a plate of food due to the volume of guests we serve. So we concentrate on quality ingredients put together simply in an effort to create the perfect plate,” he explained.

The restaurant’s interior is set to be lavish and ultra plush. From the seductive interior of the bar and lounge, the couches covered in rich fabrics, the gorgeous wooden floors and high ceilings to the crisp white linen, designer chairs, beautiful staircase and romantic balcony - Blonde is set to be enticing in every way.

One thing’s for sure, Blonde will be in a class of its own and we can’t wait to be there when they finally open their doors. We will definitely be booking our table at what is set to be the hottest new restaurant in Cape Town.
