365 Days until the FIFA 2010 World Cup Kick-Off in South Africa

Time to ignite the 2010 World Cup - Celebrating 365 days to kick off in Cape Town and the rest of South Africa

Call to all South Africans to fly the flag, wear a football shirt, blow your vuvuzela and sing out the National Anthem on 11th June 2009.

11th June 2009 at 16h00 marks 365 days to the kick-off of the FIFA 2010 Soccer World Cup – it's time for ignition! In a symbolic demonstration of national unity and pride, Brand South Africa calls on all South Africans to wear a football jersey (preferably a Bafana Bafana one) or a yellow shirt, on the day and fly the South African flag.

Nationwide, at exactly 16h00, South Africans all over South Africa will stand up and blow a vuvuzela and sing the National Anthem. A five-minute count-down will begin at 15h55 on radio stations across the country, to cue all citizens, wherever they are, to sing Nkosi Sikelele Afrika at 16h00 [see video with text of South Africa’s Anthem Karaoke style].

In Cape Town, where people are known to enjoy a party, a local Cape Town Tourism led campaign already starts earlier; a City Sightseeing bus will take a party of soccer celebrities, fans and guests on a city tour between 10h30 and 11h30 en route to Table Mountain for a noon kick-off.

Capetonians in the City
centre can join the celebrations by cheering on the bus, but every Capetonian, wherever they are, will have the chance to Live It, Love It, Louder! by making some noise at noon on 11 June, to celebrate the exact 365 mark until the Start of the 2010 World Cup.

Vuvuzela’s, car hooters
, shouts, whistles, pots and pans – it’s all about raising the roof, having fun and getting ready to welcome the world to Cape Town. After the kick-off, local band CODA will play their new song Blow Your Vuvuzela on Table Mountain.
